Is the spillway / dam road opened back up on the LMFR? When we were up there in May it was closed for construction. Thanks....

Yes, was only closed while they worked on the New Power House Electrical. You can't drive below the Spillway but you can go thru the park, 259a Loop is open.

Are people allowed to swim and raft through this area down to evening hole bridge? Because that's annoying as crap when a kayaker comes plowing through in front of you where you are fishing.

No but there was plenty of people swimming last year at the Bluffs and families playing in lower evening hole because they were not enforcing it. Even while I was up there last weekend during Owa-Chita Hickory started filling up with people playing on floats, some people playing in the deep runs at the bridge and the parking lot started filling up with people blowing up floats. The person that shuttles the kayaks stoppped and told the ones in the parking lot they could not swim there. One of the people said a couple of choice words to him so I just went to spillway. To my understanding the only place to swim is at the swim beach and the only place for kayaks is from the put in place at Hickory to fly shop bridge. The paddle boats run the stretch from swim beach up

Saturday was awful. No enforcement whatsoever. Swimming and floating from Cold hole all the way past Hickory. Just sad......

fishing the LMF in the summer is a waste. I just hope most of the holdover browns avoid death by ant consumption as well as by some moron putting them on a stringer. The state of Oklahoma is pathetic when it comes to managing this park. Only tolerable from Sept.-May

Floating through Evening Hole as well??? Did you yell at anyone? That makes my blood boil... Since they aren't enforcing anything, I think it would be OK to pepper spray those floating by.... Yes they were the Saturday I went. I was going to hit the two spots under Evening Hole bridge but when I pulled up no one was fishing the area around the bridge because two guys were swimming in those deep runs, parking lot was full of people blowing up floaties and there was just a big ole party on both sides of the bridge. Like I said the person that drives the canoe shuttle told them they couldn't swim there and his replies were F-bombs. Last year on Fathers day I did say something to people in the water and got F-bombed and told us ______ ity ___________ity fishers didn't own the f-ing river. Another person fishing told me not to worry about it because he almost got in a fight with them the day before and the rangers didn't do anything to them and the game wardens were too busy to worry about it. The inmates run the asylum this time of year

It’s been bad the last three days. Really fat, redneck, and loud tubers putting in at the cold hole bridge (which is still closed, I’m parked about 15 feet away) and floating all the way down through evening hole. I exchanged a few choice words. Almost more exciting than picking up bags upon bags of trash. At least I’m catching fish.

Just cast your fly on them and try to hook their floats. Or them. LOL I took my brother fly fishing for the first time up there about a month ago and when some jackass came floating through where we were fishing he just threw his fly on top of them.

You DO realize that without any actual laws, regulations, policies or procedures in existence there are NO infractions on the part of swimmers, tubers, kayakers etc. as they go through the fishing areas. That's right. Even the signs that indicate "entry by fishermen only" are suggestions, not enforceable laws. However there ARE fish and game laws in existence that are enforceable and woe be unto you for forgetting to mash down the barb on your size 18 fly as the swimmers, tubers and kayakers go by you and the game warden, park ranger or forestry service agent that saw fit to engage you midstream. Yep, mayhem of all sorts to be seen and heard and they'll single you the fly guy out.
Gotta love the influence on the few L.E.O's up there by the area Chamber of Commerce and the McCurtain County Visitors and Tourism folks. Look the other way while these folks have the time of their lives in the water. Those fly fishermen are city slickers anyway.

Then how come the Game Wardens will sure tell them to get out and not get back in? It was to my understanding that with the signs back in place they COULD enforce it.

The trouble is that there is no actual "page 229, paragraph E, subparagraph B of Code V.7 clearly states that it is a violation of...of..of...uhhhh gee, there's nothing here in legalese about that..." as far as swimmers, kayakers, tubers etc. goes up there. Now if they are engaged in violent acts against another person, damaging property, found to be under the influence, fishing without a license, trespassing at the generation station and such it's another story. Slowly bobbing along in a tube through the Evening Hole is not a criminal act. Annoying is all. Disobey a LEO instructing you to get out is disobeying a LEO's instructions but not a violation of a no swimming law that is on the books. Never had to be in the past. In the past that is.

I understand it’s not laws but it’s rules. Run at a swimming pool and see what the lifeguards tell you. Drive too close to the greens at the Golf Course I work at and see what I tell you. Ect ... Ect...

That's a Federal Offense, the green pants on those boys have pleats and starch. Just Saying. The Park guys will ask you to leave, the GW will take all your stuff and give you a "free" ride to his place of employment.

Going in below the Powerhouse rope WILL get L.E.O attention because in years past people have left that area of the river in body bags. That's bad press. The chamber of commerce and the tourism and visitors bureau staff don't want bad press of any kind. LEO's patrol the power station area and the campground on the opposite shore and will no doubt spot you. You'd be in violation of some government or Corps of Engineers regulation regarding power station perimeters, trespassing within power station outflow and such. When they visit you you'll get to say "Well officer, what about all those hundred and one yayhoos engaged in every aberration under the sun upstream where I was fishing earlier?" And they get to reply "Didn't see anyone upstream at all today but we sure saw you where you shouldn't be, here's your fine".

A simple fine would be acceptable, but I'm sure it's a federal trespassing violation resulting in confiscation of vehicle, fishing gear including you. At least that's what I was warned if I'm caught again.
First time was a warning, haven't been back across the fence since.
Park Rangers politely ask to you to get out, Mr Green Jeans isn't so inclined.
