ADDENDUM: Per Mike Carter of Beavers Bend State Park this morning; The newly worked area in the Cold Hole/Lost Creek area will be a Day Use Only Area. Camping will not be allowed.
We are coming to the end of the year. Please remember to renew your memberships as this is one of the few ways we fund operations on the river.
The next board meeting is Friday, February 22nd at 5pm at the Forest Heritage Pavilion.
The annual Mystery Fly Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 23rd, 2019. Go to the Mystery Fly page to register through PayPal.
Last Saturday was the fall open board meeting of the LMFRF. It was a small turnout but we had a quorum so a few things were accomplished:
By rules, the minutes from the last meeting were approved.
We were not able to find healthy brown trout eggs again this year so the annual brown trout planting will not occur again this year out of an abundance of caution.
Dur to continuing work around the new bridge and Lost Creek area, a supplemental brown trout brooder stocking will be held until next fall. We want to wait until known work is finished before adding more trout so that the optimal positioning can be determined.
Long time fly fisherman and avid LMFR fan, Chris McCorkle recently passed away. In lieu of flowers it was suggested to make a donation to the LMFRF in Chris’ memory. We have gotten quite a few donations from this and we thought of ways to best make use of this extra funding. We will plant a tree and memorial plaque for Chris.
The monofilament recycling tubes are working well according to Jim Kelly but are falling into disrepair. Tom Atwood has taken on the job of restoration so that they look and work better.
Per Don Groom’s email on the current ODWC work on the LMFR:
Attended a research update meeting this past week which provided an update on Tyler Farling’s work. OSU’s Dr. Long gave a shout out to the LMFR Foundation in appreciation for the financial assistance and support during the presentation. I also appreciate it.
We had a successful cooperative meeting with the USFWS and Surrounding states Federal Aid group thanks to Eddie and the Guides out of the Fly Shop. Many thanks! Also, many thanks to them for helping during the COE gate issues. It was much appreciated.
Please thank the Foundation members for being patient and understanding through the contract transition. I had a few abrasive folks call me and appreciate it not being anyone from the foundation.
Crystal Lake Fisheries, Missouri has the contract again. We are up to $4.50lb to stock the LMFR now.
Because of contract delays and the start of the opening of the winter trout areas, you are seeing smaller than normal fish for a few loads. This means there will be more but smaller fish. (we are buying lbs not individuals)
I am aware of the signage issue at the cold hole and in the process of working on it as we speak.
At this time I see no reason why the stop logs won’t come out as normal this fall.
We are scheduled to get a load of Wyoming browns (2,500 ea; size 8″+) Oct 23rd. I have stocking locations in mind, but am not sharing.
We are scheduled to get 4 trucks of rainbows (federal fish) early December.
Swim beach temperature gauge is reporting max water temps of 68.5- 69F at this past week.
Expect there to be the fall low flow reduction in the next couple of weeks to winter releases.
