Well, holding true to form on recent trips it started bad. My water pump went out right before Whitesboro. So after waiting on a lift and changing vehicles I didn’t make it until noon. I am very glad glad I decided to go ahead and go because I tore them up and had a nice time. I didn’t go to some of the spots I like and just stayed around the crossing and fished two spots. When I first arrived there were several people fishing above the crossing so I decided to go down by the island while no one was there. Water was up, flowing good and looked great. I made myself tight line/Euro so I could get better at slower and deeper areas. I caught double digits at that area (stopped counting at 10 but I’m pretty sure I went more than double) before I needed to relive myself and get a drink of coffee. After a short break I headed back to a spot just above the crossing. It was a deep pool with tons of fish in the area. After I started getting deep enough and started adding a little movement it was game on again. Landed a double and should have landed a couple more. I wasn’t planning on leaving until dark but was actually getting tired and the spot was getting in the shade area where my sighter was getting harder to see so I left around 4:45. They were loving my version of the near deer, which is the same but on a barbless hook and tungsten bead with burgundy hot spot collar. Sorry no pics.

This is great. I've not heard of the Blue River. I looked it up and it's a little over two hours from where we live. It's 4 hours + to LMFR. Wife and I were supposed to be at Beaver's Bend today through Wednesday (anniversary trip) but our daughter (28 weeks pregnant with twins) had to go to the hospital in OKC on Friday. She's back home and doing better now, but we still cancelled the trip. Anyway, looks like we could do a day trip to the Blue and redeem part of our time off. Thanks for posting. I'll have to go on the web and check it out.

Glad your daughter is doing better. My first grandchild is almost 1 so I can tell you being a grandpa is wonderful Incase you don’t already know.
The Blue is beautiful in its own way. I personally like the LMF way better but the Blue is growing on me. In my opinion I like it way better on years like this when there has been quite a bit of rain.

It can be loud and somewhat trashy around the campsites during busy times, but drive to the top of the hill and hike back, or run up to Hwy. 7 and hit that stretch towards the C&R, and you can find excellent fishing with beautiful scenery. The main game for many is to play the waterfalls and swing the heavy current (bait guys like to chunk from the bank and get deep), but don't be fooled by how many fish hold on the back channels in the rocks and/or softer currents. I went yesterday, and last week, each for a quick day trip. I was in double digits quickly. Yesterday, they were caught on dries, nymphs, and streamers on all types of water. Explore and find your private areas. I do recommend a wading staff - some rocks can be like greased slides and the limestone areas have holes that drop several feet unexpectedly. I will probably be back up there after Turkey Day. If you see a blue 4Runner with a rod vault and more stickers than an Ohio State helmet, look for the guy in black Simms waders (Darth Wader) and say hello!

Glad you had a great trip to the Blue. I hope it wasn't too crazy there around the crossing. What length of tippet were you using and what flies were successful?

Glad you had a great trip to the Blue. I hope it wasn't too crazy there around the crossing. What length of tippet were you using and what flies were successful? When I first got there several people were right around the crossing but nobody around the island so that is why I started there. Around 3 the upper part really cleared out. Since I know most of the area is chest high I ran about 6' from ring to surgeons knot then about 2' with around 6" tag. In parts this was ok but really needed a couple more feet because was dunking most of my sighter in places.

Yeah cool...sounds about right for what I remember about the area around the islands. Did you fish just down stream a little more? Where the riffles/swift water starts? It splits up between a row of trees and then dumps into the really slow deep water....

I just hit the area between sand bar and start of the riffles. Right before the the riffles start in the deeper water they were congregated. I’ve had good luck before I’m the narrow strip between the island and bank but didn’t see any in that clean clear water
