Hello. There is a large island a little over 1 1/2 miles below Hwy 70. Is it ok to camp at that island? Some buddies and I are going to canoe and spend the night on the river soon and one of the guys wants to go a day early and have the rest of us catch up the next day. Is that large island ok for him to camp on? Are there any other primitive camping spots close by that are better/legal? Thank you much!

No. That is private land. In that area if you are floating the water it’s ok but if you get on dry ground it is private land

Bummer! Well thank you very much for the information. We were of course hoping that because it’s an island that it wasn’t private. Better safe than sorry and that’s why I asked. Thanks again!

Just wondering, is this the island that has a deck on the other side with the step/stairs leading to the cabin? If so the people that own it (or did) are very nice so you might contact them and ask.

That I’m not for sure of. It’s a big island about 1.7 miles below the highway 70 bridge. From what I can see on satellite pictures there isn’t a house or cabin or anything unnatural there. If I knew how to attach the screenshot of satellite image then I would. Thank you

Google for Broken Bow area canoe and kayak rental shops. Shop staff can advise and they'll have river charts indicating whats what.

Have to be careful. There are several duck clubs down that way. Don't want to get caught trespassing.
The Pickerings and the Willinghams own a lot of that land.
