Well, that's progress. This should help some in terms of fishing pressure, I think. Hopefully, they'll offer annual passes for out-of-state residents too. I for one am happy to pay a fee if it helps maintain and develop the Oklahoma park system.

We heard this might be in the cards and like you, I sincerely hope that the money is used to benefit the parks. I don't mind paying a daily use fee. To be honest, a lot of the infrastructure at Beavers Bend is really nice for a state park. There are a lot of needs, too, but overall it is a very nice park and I don't mind paying to use it. If that money can help them do projects in the park, it will be great. I know that the money will be spread out over other parks, too, but that benefits the state and helps us sportsmen/women feel confident we will have public parks for our kids and grand kids. I do think the price for tent campsites is a tad high for when they add the daily use fee, though.

Agreed, I won't mind paying to ensure it's there when I want to use it and not closed by some bureaucratic initiative like the "Corpse" of Engineers historically.

As a Texan coming and using Oklahoma parks I have no problem in paying a fee. I probably spend more time fishing in Ok than I do in Tx. I do think that $12 a day plus camping fees is a little steep but I could see $8 a day and that would not deter me from using the park. Texas has a day use fee for all its state parks and I know that that has a reflection on the clientele that use the parks.
Hopefully the monies would be spent in and on the parks and not directed to other projects and programs.

I remember years ago when there was a Ranger station at the entrance to Beavers Bend. It cost two bucks to get in.

And a vehicle fee means we all meet up outside the park and jump in the back of David's truck to go fishing! haha.

Now we just need a rod fee in the evening hole and we’d be all set.

That article is an interesting read. I'm all for a fee to help out the parks. I enjoy beavers bend as much as possible and have seen it grow over the past 20 years, the last 6 have been a boom. I'll happily pay a fee even if out of state is higher for the continued improvement of Beavers Bend and other parks.
I'm not so sure on their math as to the revenue estimated to be generated of $8 to $10 million. They state that there are 9.3 million visitors annually. At $8 that equates to $74.4 million and at $12 that would be $111.6 million. Since only 50% of the parks will be requiring a fee that is still $37.2 to $55.8 million. If you average the high and low, you come up with $74.4 million. You would need around 7 people per vehicle to drop it to $10.6 million.
Is it just me or do there estimates seem a little low? Or is the $8 to $10 million just for a single park? What are ya'lls take on this?

Now we just need a rod fee in the evening hole and we’d be all set. Bro, we don't want the state to make that much money. I'm a Texan that camps at Beaver's Bend several times a year. $12 would not be a deal breaker in addition to the camping fees. My complaint is the fact that it would make OK parks some of the most expensive state parks to camp in. Unfortunately, the condition of many, but not all of the RV campsites at Beaver's Bend are second rate compared to most state parks.
I'm not griping because I really enjoy camping there and flyfishing. It's just if they are going to raise the prices to that level the facilities should be commensurate with surrounding states.

I'm another Texan that visits in the winter, usually. The fee wouldn't bother me even if they didn't knock a little off the camping fee... if that fee money goes to the park. I really like it there in winter when the crowds are generally gone and there's just a few folks out fishing. I wonder if the fees will keep some of the crowds away in summer. Probably not... but we have that worked out and just don't go during the crowd season. It will be interesting. I usually stay in the Armadillo section which is detached from the river sections. The RV sites are nicer and have full hook-ups at many of them. It's just a short drive to fish.

Happy to pay but I foresee long line of cars sitting at the north and south entrance to the park on Friday pm or Saturday am. One ranger to handle all comes and goers throughout busy weekend will be a huge bottle neck. Or they can use the funds to pay more employees and build more guard stands. I also fear that the rangers won’t be in the guard booth at the wee hours that some of like to get to the water to beat the rest of you to the choice spots!!!!
