Hey Everyone,
What are your preferred methods for tying off a barb-less fly? I have tried the dropper method but am constantly having to unwind it from the main line. I have also just tied off the bend of the hook but now that I fish mostly barb-less I have concerns that the point fly will slip off while playing a fish. I have been experimenting with leaving a long tag when I tie on the top fly with a clinch knot and then add the point fly to the bottom of the tag. Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks Everyone!

Tying inline off the bend of your first fly works even with barbless hooks. I’ve only ever had it slide off once, and that was when a fish wrapped up under a log. Otherwise tie in your tag fly using a triple surgeons knot and your point on the main line and you should be good.

Thanks F&S. I have been trying the triple surgeons knot and tying the dropper off the top tag of the knot. I try to make that tag about 6 inches long but it still wraps around the main line pretty consistently. Any suggestion that can help reduce that? Maybe tying off the bottom tag? Thanks again for the info!

Thanks again for the info! I’ve found that if you take the tag you’re going to tie off of and tie an overhand knot with it around the main line it will stick out at more of a 90 degree angle. Also you might shorten your dropper tag up just a little. Should wrap less with a shorter tag.

If the hook eye on your point fly is big enough you can fit your dropper in and fish it off that. Otherwise a triple surgeons knot, using the downward tag end.
