There was never actually a true C&R on the LMF. It was red zone and blue zone. Red zone you could only keep one trout a day and it had to be 20” or bigger. Blue Zone you could keep 6 rainbows of any size. The river wide limit on browns was 20” minimum. A lot of people think the red zone was fly fishing only but that isn’t accurate either. You could use lures as well. Everything was barbless in the red zones. Aggregate fish limit was 6.
The new regs have the river divided into Area 1 and Area 2. In Area 1, you can keep 3 rainbows a day, only one of which may be over 25”. The river wide limit on browns is one a day and it must be 30” or bigger to keep. So brown trout are basically C&R only. The river is barbless for the entirety of the trout stream. In Area 2 which starts at old park dam, you may keep one rainbow a day but it must be 25” to keep it. Browns are still 30” minimum to keep and one a day. Total fish limit is 3 fish.
