Mini report. Good weather today with usual Oklahoma winds--annoyingly from the north today though. I fished the main bait chucker hole. I went with my confidence fly--a tan, size 14 TH synthetic hare's ear + partridge soft hackle. After suspecting I wasn't getting deep enough, I tied on a heavier size 12 w/ a 3MM bead and had some split shot 16" above it and replaced the lighter indicator with an Air-lock bobber. This rig was not very fun or particularly easy to cast, especially with the wind blowing in my face. But I wound up with two nice fish. A nice 14" and a hefty 15". The latter fought very hard and put some spin on my reel. A slow day, but still worth the effort.

Nice fish! I've been trying to get over there all season but will miss out this year.

Yeah, they are not bad quality for stockers I suppose. The second two pictures are deceiving. That fish was quite strong and bigger/fatter than it looks. I could barely get my hand around it. Unfortunately trout stocking is over and the fish don't have long before it gets too hot. Since practically everyone that fishes there keeps what they catch, the fish could be gone quicker than I'd like. I get a lot of puzzled looks when I'm releasing fish back..

I only had about 40 mins to fish today. Freshly tied last night, I chose this fly in size 12. On my third cast in the main bait chucker hole, my indicator sunk and I set the hook on a suspected rainbow. A fraction of a second later I was shocked and a "oh sh@t" was silently mumbled to myself. Luckily I had tied my fly onto 4X. It felt like a brick, followed by an intense bend in the rod and my real screaming. After about a minute, I caught a glimpse of a golden silhouette and knew exactly what I was hooked into. I knew these guys were further down stream past the big spill over, but didn't know they hung out here too. Anyway, an accidental catch but I'll take it anyway, as it's my first carp. Not very big by carp standards, but about 16" I think. Attachments:
