I went down below the dam this morning and tried my hand at some hybrid action. I did have a couple bites on a white wooly bugger but couldn't make the hookup. I did end up with dinner but not via fly. My pitiful attempt at casting didn't help. Hadn't really cast since last June when I was at BB. maybe next time.

Is that usually a pretty good spot to catch some hybrids and/or white bass? I've been looking to get into some of those.

When water is being let out & the bite is on its as good as any. I don't know if the falling water as they closed the gates moved a lot of the fish out or what, yesterday. I walked out with only 1 decent fish about 7lbs via ultralight. I also saw a 12-15lb blue caught via jig so that would be possible also.
Its approximately 25-40yds across depending on amount being released. So I would think it would be relatively easy for a better fishermen than I to work it. The banks are fairly steep & make your back cast difficult.
I believe below Dennison dam to be better when conditions are right. But it's not wadeable right now.

And it's safe to wade and fish with the water running?

No! At Texoma it's common to see people wading when no water is being let out. At waurika it's not really nessesary as it's not much wider than Spill Way used to be. Both have klaxons & warning signs against wading.
If you have access to a boat it is very possible to chase them on the lake. Find a school of fish & go at it.
