Looking forward to having our trout in the classroom project kids involved with that research if the ODWC will allow it. They do a great job with the brown trout eggs each year. I do recall with the TPWD did their movement/migration study of trout on the Guad. Most of the transmitters were either lost totally or found in bird nests.

The info on the foundation site indicates the Corps would close the Tainter gates temporarily so that the Evening Hole bridge can be cleared of debris and repaired and the water line replaced and tested and that when the repair work is done the Corps will reopen the gates a bit to facilitate the lowering of the reservoir levels to their desired goal. Who knows what will really happen but that is what to expect. Remember that the power generation station gates still remain open as they have been since Christmas. That oughta help. Lets hope clear weather remains in the region or that precip is negligible.
Adding to what Woscholar said, it'd be great to have students conduct field studies of some kind in the park, be it about fish or what have you. That'd help the park gain recognition for its natural attributes. Was a few years back I observed eight or so late teen / early 20's students with notebooks in hand hiking along the Spillway path, stopping for observation and discussion and taking notes along the way. I didn't speak with them but it appeared they were taking in the geology. No they were not partying, they were actually doing class work of some kind. Good to see that.

Quick stop at Re-reg at lunch, water still flowing high. It didn't seem to help reduce the high water flow in Zone III as I'd hoped.

Yeah you should definitely expect to see the other dam open full bore for the foreseeable future.

Hey Coach, is there anyway you or someone can go take a look/pictures around the new Bluff channel please? I would love to see what it looks like and how it travels with the normal flow.
Pretty please with sugar on top

The Beavers Bend State Park facebook page features a few new photos of the Evening Hole bridge repair work currently under way. The foundation website also features one.

I just saw the video of the lost creek/bluffs.
Would be nice if they kept it as is and maybe cleared out the back of the bluffs to allow it to merge into the evening creek on the left and lost creek on the right. Looks like that's how the natural flow wants to go. The cold hold looks amazing and is twice as big now.

It is good to see things shaping up. I am moving to Paris in the next two weeks. No more 2.5 hour drive to BB.

I cut and pasted the info below from the Beavers Bend State Park facebook entry posted the morning of 1/26: www.facebook.com/beaversbend.statepark/PARK UPDATE: 1-26-2016... BEAVERS BEND STATE PARK IS STILL CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC THROUGHOUT THIS WEEK, THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND, NEXT WEEK AND THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND (1-25-2016 THROUGH 2-7-2016). This is just an estimated time frame and the park may be closed longer than listed above or may be able to open a little sooner than listed above, but keep checking back for updates. Thank you to all who are helping us by being patient while we work through this difficult process. Work on the main water line is in progress and fill material to repair the bridge approache is on its way this morning as well. UPDATE: Two of the Tainter gates are open again. So the target depth is 604. It's currently a little over 607. The chart shows that it is dropping roughly a foot a day. That bodes well for flows being back to normal when the park reopens. Or am I missing something? I know the higher flows are great right now for the silt.

Yeah, I think it looks on track to be at their target level before this time next week. As I said earlier, I would like to see them run a high flow from the Spillway tainter gates sometime after the debris has been cleared at the Evening Hole Bridge in order to flush silt that the debris dam may have blocked in. I don't know if something like that is in their plans or not.

2000 CFS for a day or three would be nice. I am not sure if 1000 will do the trick. Not enough to move earth, but enough to flush the lower EH. The pics of the EH bridge look awful - barely a trickle thru that mud and silt.
The opening of the park has nothing to do with the flows from the lake or the lake level. All about that main water line and finishing the bridge approaches. Without rain, it does look like the levels will be good and statutory flows back. Heck, I am sure anglers might like about 400 CFS for a little while. Keep those fishies spread out! I am sure many of us will be there when it opens no matter what. It sure will be interesting, again.
Maybe we should all have a meeting when it re-opens..... see how many of us can get up there and arrange to explore it. Just a thought.

If the park is open, I will be there February 12th-15th. Bringing my teen son and his friends for the annual birthday guy getaway. So I plan to hit the river everyday while I'm there. Happy to meet up with anyone that's there and share notes.

EH Bridge cleaned out. Water line fixed and is getting covered as I write. They have one more water line on the old fly shop bridge to fix, then they will have water service throughout the park. More pics coming...

All good stuff Aaron! I see from the Corps flow page that a third Tainter gate has been opened. 50 inches and the flow from the dam is up to 1524 cfps. Maybe that will move some silt out of the Evening Hole. Maybe? Although we fly guys focus on the fishing is there any news about other aspects of the general park fix-its such as restoration of the campgrounds that were close to the waters edge, did the place that generates the kayak hatch get put back to rights, was the swim area touched? Just wondering. Hopefully the upcoming photos you post will include some of the new fly shop construction area.

From the weekly ODWC fishing report e-mail that I signed up for ages ago at: www.wildlifedepartment.com/fishing/fishrpt.htm Lower Mountain Fork: January 21. Stocked 3,068 pounds, approximately 3,800 rainbow trout on January 19. Report submitted by April Drake, secretary at the Southeast Regional Office. Tons of handy info is on that ODWC website. There's a lot of clicking around to do to explore it all as one thing leads to another. Remember a while back we were discussing contact info for McCurtain County Game Wardens. Here's what's shown: www.wildlifedepartment.com/laws_regs/lawstatemap.htmMcCURTAIN County Game Wardens Dru Polk - Smithville (580) 513-6866 Kenny Lawson - Idabel (580) 513-4963 Mark Hannah - Eagletown (580) 513-4651
