So this winter I've been fishing out of my canoe on Broken Bow Lake. It actually works well when the boat ramps are flooded, I've got the lake to myself. Anyway, I've been doing well with the Kentucky or spotted bass using conventional tackle. I'd like to change it up some, use my fly rod and a balanced leech or woolly bugger pattern. Here's my dilemma, this time of year fishing in a minimum of 12 foot of water. I'll be experimenting with this quick release strike indicator that should make indicator fishing doable. What I'd like to get an opinion on is if there is a recommendation in getting a fly down to the 12' level on a sinking line. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Based on your inquiry, I think you are looking for something that will add "sinkability" to a sinking line? If you are, I would recommend looking into sinking leaders to complement the sinking line. Rio has some great sinking leader, either 4" per second or 7"per second (if I recall correctly). If you might be also inquiring about sinking lines, I would highly recommend the Teeny line of sinking lines. Just "google "Teeny Fly Lines" and check out their sinking lines.

Rio Versileader 7" per second is what I use on trout ponds and hi-elevation lakes. It might help.

Sounds really hard to cast for someone of my skill (or lack of) level.

Thanks for the responses! If I get a technique worked out worth sharing, I'll let you know. My plan is to drift along the bluffs (in canoe), casting / drifting the shoreline for the spotted bass with a woolly bugger or gully worm pattern. So my last experiment on the lake resulted in a couple bass. I've been going with the quick release indicator (or at least my version), a 14' fluorocarbon light leader with a balanced leech. Got this on my 3 weight 9' TFO, put up a great fight. The lake was a bit too windy to fish for my preference and I realize I could have cleaned up using more standard tackle. Regardless, it was fun to get them on a fly rod. Got a cool picture of one of the bass. Attachments:
