I went behind the office the other day during my lunch break and toss around a bigger sized popper. None of the bass I caught were anything to brag about but it sure was a welcome break from doing maintenance on oilfield equipment.
Nobody fishes this pond and they are not scared and very aggressive. I watched one torpedo toward my bait from nearly 12' away, leaving a wake that Jaws would have been proud of. Last year before the rains I watched one chase a sunfish up onto the bank like an orca and beached himself. I had walked the edge of the pond to check it out and spooked them into deeper waters.
I'm thinking of trying it again on the shallow side with a small streamer. There are lots of small sunfish and small minnows/darters. The deeper area next to the dam is rather mossy. I worked that popper and spinning gear along Otto some good success.
