Found a little pond close to the office that holds some carp and decided to hit it up after work friday. Ended up catching this guy on a size 8 carp tease. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

That's the hardest part is just finding good spots to chase them. Not many people really pursue carp and those who do are pretty tight lipped about spots. I'm still on the hunt for a reliable place to catch them out but managed to find a few spots. Are you in the OKC area? If so I'd take you out carp fishing if you wanted to go.

Ahhh too bad man. Well from what I understand most big reservoirs have them. Just have to find a flat where you can stalk them. Other than that, sometimes little ponds and stuff like that will have them as well. If you check out Texas Fishing Forum there's a section dedicated to just carp fishing and a lot of the fly guys chase them as well.

U guys can meet in the middle in Dallas. Lots of carp on the flooded reservoirs around here. Capt MAC from TFF is a DFW carper, I sent him a few spots earlier this year. Carp are not my bag, so I give out info any time I see them.

Guys I'm trying really hard to pretend I didn't read this column. Kinda like the way some people cover their ears with their hands and loudly exclaim La! La! La! La! La!

Haha Fenwick. I've caught a carp accidentally, but I'm with Jeff. Carp isn't my bag either. I applaud you for your efforts though. If I had no other choice, I'd pursue them. They are some seriously ugly and nasty looking fish but they pull like a sack of bricks. I'm a trout snob...

They are some seriously ugly and nasty looking fish but they pull like a sack of bricks. I'm a trout snob... I prefer trout as well, but I've had to come to terms with the fact that I don't live in the Rockies and unless I want to drive 12 hours, quality trout fishing is tough to come by in the summer, so sometimes a guy has to do what he has to do to get a fix. Carp do sometimes live in some nasty places and I'll admit it, there have been some times when I'm crawling around in the mud chasing them when I think to myself, man I may have a problem. They are fun to chase though. Seems like they're born about 4 lbs and they're tough. They're super spooky and can sometimes be really picky. You pretty much have to sight fish for tailing fish that are rooting around in the mud. They don't see real well so you have to put the fly right on them or they won't even see it. Too close and they're gone though. The bite is really light so if you dont see them eat it's tough to detect a bite and once they're hooked they pull hard. It's fun because it can be so challenging. Not gonna lie though, I do miss trout and I'm counting down the days until Colorado.

Yep, all true. Heard/read a lot about carp fishing. The Orvis podcast has some good episodes on carp fishing. I'd do the same if I had to get my fix too! I think if you're hooking up with carp, you're doing some things right. I think it will make you a better trout angler. Good job!

I could be fly fishing for carp, koi, catfish, smallmouth bass, sunnies, crappies etc. year 'round in White Rock Creek right down at the end of my street. Could've put in casting practice there too but...but...it just ain't trout fishing and trout are what I want to find at the end of my line. Just sayin'. Gee, I haven't wet a line since the last Sunday of February. C'mon Fall weather!
