This weather’s got me feelin’ some trout camp. I was gifted a Dutch oven, think I’m going to learn to use it and maybe bake us a cobbler this year or something. I think we should stick with the open grill idea. Also gonna look at getting a portable grill to set over the coals of the campfire. Sho’ gonna be fun.

Been off the site for quite a while - you know I have been smothered with "real life" stuff. Had to go to CO a couple of times, Spent 22 nights in tents this summer. I was kinda busy this summer because I am a teacher - that can be tough w/ warm water fishing in the summer and chores. Don't line up and feel sorry for me, I know your hearts and warm wishes go out to me, but I am getting by.
I hereby stand up and declare "I am in for trout camp 2018". That Dutch oven thing - done that once on an hunt trip once: WOW. Turned out great. When camping, I rarely do the campfire thing, so I have no hands on experience...

One can apple or cherry pie filling. Of course peach or black berry will be good too. Line oven with foil or oven liner, grease or butter liner, add pie filling, in bowl add one box jiffy yellow cake mix, 1/2 cup water or as needed to make a thick batter, add a bit of cinnamon or some syrup and mix well. Pour over pie filling. Bake on a few hot coals with the lid filled with coals. About an hour or more if it's pretty cold.

I’m in. I love the comment about the Sons of Croatia, since I’m Croatian and speak it fluently. I totally understand these people.
If they’re in the park I’ll offer to speak to them and bring the slivovice (plum brandy) as a peace offering. We should be good after that!
Seriously looking forward to this event now!

Count me in! I didn't get to last year's, so I want to get out and meet all of you awesome folks in person - plus, catch a fish and sit around the fire with a whiskey.

I’ve still got beef with the Croats after they wouldn’t let me swim in their world heritage UNESCO site – plitvice lakes – on a 100° day. Had to go camp and swim on the beach in Puna instead and got poked three times by urchins. So you could say there’s still some unresolved conflict.

Well, looks like I'm out. I have to travel up to IL for some corporate training and won't be back until some time Friday evening. That's just cutting things too close for having to drive 7-8 hours to get to BB. Maybe next year fellas.

All good, cigarsnjeeps. This looks to be an annual thing. Still looks to be a lot of people possibly coming. We’ll have to build the fire a little bigger this year.

I bet you're the only one that would know what I was talking about if I mentioned Vis Island. Spent a week there scuba diving on Roman shipwrecks and submarine caves. It is SUCH a beautiful place! Stayed in a Sobe that overlooks the harbor. Folks would meet the fishing boats as they came in with their daily catch. There's a lot more to that story. JR

So how're we gonna do the fly tying portion of camp? I can't imagine my hands working at a reasonable capacity if it gets as cold as last year 😂

I have a small aluminum table just big enough for a vise and some materials. Would put that near the fire. Hopefully it’s not as cold this year. Frozen boots are not fun to put on.

Show up and teach some of us how to fish Zone II! Tell us fish stories from Oregon. FlyAndStream hails from that same neck. He's a great guy, too. Y'all, Foxflyfisher's a really nice guy. I met him on the river yesterday, talked to him some more at the Fly Shop, and invited him to Trout Camp. You should see the bucktail streamers he ties. Nice! It's getting pretty close, folks. I can feel it!

I’m heading up this weekend to get some practice in. Last time I went trout fishing was.... New Year’s Day, actually. Last time I caught a trout was... trout camp last year. Anyways, I’m gonna try to learn to drop shot nymph, then when I get frustrated go back to fishing dries. Say hi if you’re out there.

We are about 30 days out from trout camp 2018. Sho be lookin forward to it. For those who did not attend last year, we are gratefully disorganized. We understand people might have to cancel. It’s essentially pick out your own campsite, set up camp, fish, meet at a central firepit, eat, smoke, drink, and get to know the fine people who post on this message board- put names to faces. Hang your waders and lean your fly rod on a tree. Do it again the next day. Too hard to reserve a site for this many people. We like it disorganized. There will be a fire, a couple of grills, and bring your own chair, food, tobacco, and whiskey- or name your poison. I prefer coffee and tea- alcohol doesn’t agree with me. We’ll have a great time, for sure. Look for a really sweet hand-painted sign when you get to the area. Now- which campsite did we agree on? Jonbo?

I think we decided on Fern, for the RV’ers. However, Elm is right next to Fern so if the RVs get parked on the north end of Fern and the tents get pitched on the south end of Elm we’d be right next to each other. Jonbo?

I think y'all conceded to me that this year we'd gather in Fern. My reasoning is purely selfish. I'l be pulling my wee camper. Pretty much have to camp in Fern. I reasoned with y'all, though, that the Day Use Area Hole is within walking distance (It is, right?), AND, there's a good bathroom with real hot-water showers and flush toilets. I know Hank despises such wussified city-folk amenities, but there it is. So, Fern? Oh, yeah, that's true. RV-amenable-Fern and primitive-Elm do adjoin in a couple of decent sites. Yeah, Darrell, good idea. One could tent-camp in Elm and still have access to the Fern bathrooms, provided the Fernies don't report you and provided the Sons of Croatia haven't taken over completely. Me, I can't get there till Friday afternoon, so I"ll probably go along with whatever the early-birds have decided.
