Your images aren't showing. There's just a graphic that says you need to update your Photobucket account to "enable 3rd party hosting".

Where can I host photos without paying a fee? Photobucket might work if you get the 3rd party settings right. Does that require a fee?

Can you no longer upload photos directly?
And when you say narrowing, are they attempting to narrow the entire "lake" or just the area where the bridge will go in?

From the pics I have seen it's just the bridge area

They have yet again taken out some fishable water and replaced it with rock and caliche

Was there some idea to create a mini pond in the middle of the river (in some kind of Cold Hole spirit)? Why move all of the rocks to create "the narrows" yet leave this disgusting mass of slow moving junk water? Is this supposed to appeal to the bait angler? Or so we can practice our still water techniques?
This IS a river isn't it?
Sorry, I'm annoyed.

Who has been moving the rock and gravel around, and why? I had the idea from discussion a couple of weeks ago or so that the Corps had messed around at the big ol' pile o' rocks, effectively closed off the channel on the Cypress woods side, and some other stuff. I thought this was to somehow ensure free passage of water so they wouldn't get back-flooded somehow while they worked on replacing the bridge. OR SOMETHING. I don't know now what gave me that idea. Something I read, I think.
So, anyway, who's done all this? Is Game and Fish behind it and they're trying to improve the fishing experience? I should hardly think so. It's too darned ugly now, straight narrow fast runs interrupted by deep still pools. I go up there for a minute whenever I'm at the Evening Hole to marvel at the hideousness of it. So WHAT GIVES? Anyone know or have a decent idea? I have no problem with it if it's temporary. If they have to take their time fixing the river back up, so be it. I know budgets are always stretched thin. But if this is just the way it's going to be now between the Evening Hole and the Cold Hole Bridge I'm going to be severely disappointed, because it's a mess.

How can I "dislike" that post Hey I fish chironomid patterns too--primarily Zebra midges.

Yeah not much else...Dorsey's Medallion Midge is an even better choice there!

Yeah not much else...Dorsey's Medallion Midge is an even better choice there! I just looked it up. That thing looks really fancy! I wouldn't even try to tie it. All I tie midge-wise are simple zebras with maybe a bit of flash or cdc just behind the head. I am a lazy fly-tyer by nature. No Dorsey's Medallion Midge for me!

Jonbo,
It's not too complicated: #18-24 TMC 101 hook, Dark brown 8/0 uni thread, White 6/0 Uni for the rib, Rust-brown superfine for the thorax and Medium Dun Medallion Sheeting (get STALCUP'S Medallion Wing Sheeting--it's the best. Feather-craft sells it)
If you're interested in a good book with step by step instructions and pictures, get Pat Dorsey's Tying & Fishing Tailwater Flies... great book. Has some tactics and tips in it as well...

Under the new regs, the mass of slow water will be in the red zone...... perfect, just what we need. I believe this is COE and State work. Not sure if ODWC is even involved. To me, it just keeps getting worse in that area.

I really feel like the budget thing is BS. If I could get the green light, I would rent equipment myself (on my own dime), and dig out a proper channel. I can't imagine that it would take me more than a few days and around $2000 or so. I would gladly donate that much if I could see that the work is done properly. I'd dig out a winding channel with cuts and random boulders in a repeating riffle/run/pool config. Why is that so hard? They can't do that? WTF? And yes, I understand that some of the areas are bedrock. However, the area from the start of cold hole to the EH bridge is relatively flat with LOTS of material to work with (material that was previously in Spillway Creek).

Well, I just want to be sure that something like that is NOT in the plans before I get officially ticked. If the ugly way it is now is only temporary until, say, the CH bridge is completed, or something, I'm willing to live with it for quite awhile (as if there's anything I can do about it anyway! ).

I really hope they will consult with a biologist on the river design if they work on it again. It wouldn't require much more to do it correctly when the equipment is there. The state should be able to provide a biologist (or bring Tyler back for the project!)
