Anyone taken a look at the lake levels today? Current inflow is 150,000 CFS and the lake is 65% full and rising. The lake has risen 5 feet since yesterday. Looks like more rain forecast through tomorrow morning....

All,
Starting 7:00pm tonight (27 Dec) they will release 1,200cfs from Spillway. I hope the powerhouse starts releasing water as well. Not sure the Corp will do that or not. But the Spillway release will happen at 7:00pm tonight. Inflow to the lake is massive, closing in on double the inflow from last spring's flood. I will update as I hear more info.

Tried fishing last night. Caught enough to be happy. Attempted to fish today in the rain in the chocolate river. Landed two before the lightning moved in overhead. Hasn't stopped since. Doesn't sound like tomorrow is any better with the higher flow. #Bummed

Pool elevation is 619.88 feet on Sunday 27Dec15 Time: 1800 hours. At this elevation the total amount of water stored in Broken Bow Lake is 1220677 acre-feet. Reservoir release is 140 cubic feet per second on Sunday 27Dec15 Time: 1900 hours. Flood control pool is 70.33% full. Flood control pool storage filled is 307307 acre-feet which is equivalent to 7.64 inches of runoff over the entire drainage basin. Flood control pool storage empty is 129662 acre-feet which is equivalent to 3.22 inches of runoff over the entire drainage basin. www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/BROK.lakepage.htmlIf I read the data correctly, the lake has come up from 614 to to 619 today alone... that's 5ft. and an all night rain ahead of us... This may go over the dam. d

The new and wider Spillway and the broader Evening Hole ought to accommodate the release just fine. If anything gets loosened and sent downriver it probably won't be anything more than the minor streamside litter accumulation. I'm curious how the lower Evening Hole redds or baby browns resulting from the Vibert box plantings will make out.

Just ran and verified the Power House is releasing all 4 Gates - I know there are only 2 Generators for reference the water was to the bottom step of the stairs = 6" up on the Chain link Fence. Spillway has opened 2 gates, can't tell how far but here's a Pic.... Also Rangers have closed Spillway Road Access off 259aN.

I'm watching the data changes at www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/BROK.lakepage.html same as you are. I'm also thinking about the faulty levee closer to home on nearby Lake Lewisville which has developed boils on the supposed dry side.

At 9:20 they made us move out of Fern to Acorn. Said they plan to open the spillway all they way. Also saw Coach checking out the fly shop as we were moving.

Okay, what with, at 3AM Monday, Dec. 28: - 8 Tainter Gates open 1.00 FEET, - 1 Low Flow Valve open 19.00 PERCENT, and - New Gate Discharge was 10571 cubic feet per second, per www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/BROK.lakepage.html, what gates is this all coming from? Those numbers are frighteningly similar to the ones I remember seeing during the flood. Is all or some portion of this water being released from the Spillway, the Powerhouse? IOW, has Spillway been flooded like before?

Looks like we will get some massive spillover in addition to the Spillway release. You can do the math and see how much will be flowing down Spillway. With .5 feet to the top of Spillway with 130,000cfs still flowing into the lake(around 16k cfs being released currently), we have about 1 hour before it overflows. Not looking good.

For comparison, the May flood peaked at 82,000cfs. This one peaked at over 140,000cfs, and is currently at 130,000cfs.

28,000cfs was the release from the gates in May. Who knows what this one will be.

Aaron,
Did you guys evacuate the shop??
Man this is bad...is Spillway going to be opened up completely again?

Spillway is open to 2 feet on all gates. Water is as almost as high as it was in the May flood. The shop floor is just above the waterline. The shop was cleaned and vacated yesterday. The water will be much higher this time. We could see 3-4 times as much water coming down spillway this time. I believe the gates will be further opened to 3 feet here shortly.

Just spoke with the Park Ranger, they're planning on opening them to 4' that's even higher than earlier this year... Their main concern is to protect the drinking water system since they know at the next level it will be taken out. From the Dam... Denny
