Well gang, I’m sorry to say this cold has gotten the best of me. Coffee and Mucinex kept me fishing today, but I’m calling it quits. Sorry I’m having to bail, but I need to go home and get in bed. Man, sorry to hear that. Get better! I’m thinking, trout camp without its founding father, it’s gonna be kind of like cheese without bread.

So, here's an interesting headline I just saw:
State of Emergency declared for all 77 Oklahoma counties ahead of winter storm

The weather for our area didn't look too bad to me.

It's looking somewhat less horrible than last night when I posted, so... I donno. I'm not going to pull the camper out into a rainstorm, but anything less... I see I won't have to return Sunday in storms, supposedly. Where's everybody camping? Hankinsfly had set up in Elm (primitive), at the corner of Fern (modern).

Got a window right now. Nothing on radar close. Blowing off a half-day of work and going for it. Sunday should be all right coming back. I'll put camper on corner of Fern next to Elm, if I can, if any of our tent campers want to set up close by in Elm. My problem was pulling in heavy rain. Not going to have that, here I come!

Well, guys 'n gals, I'm all set up in Fern #1. Elm 14 is the closest Elm site if anyone is interested. The weather's really good right now. Todd and David just fed me lunch, so all's good.

2018 Trout Camp was attended by about 15 hardy people this last weekend. It was my first time, but ended up meeting some very interesting and knowledgeable fisherman. It was raining when we arrived Friday night and sprinkling when we left Sunday morning for Tulsa. Darrell, passed out his special hand made fly packages to those that attended the gathering at David’s cabin. I must give a huge thank you to David for opening his cabin for all us us to be able to be more comfortable due to the weather. I believe everyone caught fish and Jonbo caught the 2018 best fish. Thanks everyone, it was very special to meet you.

Sorry I missed it. Sick pup, leaky tent and terrible weather were enough to keep me at home. So where is this 'best fish' Jonbo? That David guy is pretty cool - Magick and I have crashed there a time or two How was the fishing in general? I saw Bill managed to get his ugly mug in a nice picture of a 20+ rainbow.

I'm going to try and post a quick trip report with some pics before I get carried away and it's 2019 in no time... Trout camp 2018 was wet and cold but it was a blast once again! Too bad some of you had to cancel or leave earlier due to the weather. But this should not happen again, since Todd will be the weather administrator for the next trout camp It was great to see familiar faces and see some new ones as well. I don't have kids yet, but something like the trout camp cheers me up for their future. The world might be overwhelmed by social media, but still nothing beats face-to-face human interaction! Sharing a beer or a cigar, sitting by the fire, talking about fishing, about the big ones that came off. This is the best! Arrived at the Elm camp on Friday afternoon around 3:30 PM with my friend Peter . At that time it was not raining yet, which was much appreciated to set up camp. Danimal had already pitched his tent and Small fry followed a bit later. David and Todd were helping setting things up. It started drizzling shortly after and canopies were set. Peter and I tried the close-by day use area for a short 30 mins before dark, tossing woolies. No hit, but it's always good to cast a line and break off the city rust. After that some went to tie flies at David's cabin. Dan, Peter and I stayed at camp to cook soup, spaghetti and make sure the booze was well guarded. The rest of the group came back later from tying. More stories, drinks and food were shared under the canopy. A wet and cold Friday night in the tent. The whole Saturday was going to be basically the same: wet and cold. Peter and I started at the evening hole, then rock pile, bluffs, and up to lower spillway in the morning. Lunch break at camp. Then swim beach, power house area and day use to finish the day. Fishing was slow all day for us. I managed to pick up around 7-8 fish over the whole day, mostly euro nymphing and then a bit of wooly stripping at the end of the day. I caught my first two fish on the awesome Polish woven nymph that Darrell passed out in the trout camp fly package, which was really cool. Unfortunately I lost it shortly later in a snag at the rock pile area. Here are a few pics taken throughout the day with cold shaky fingers and nothing dry on me to wipe water off the lens. My best fish of the day came at the end, at the day use area. A solid stoker that smashed a black bugger. I saw the take, which is always awesome. Pretty cool also are the newly exposed roots of the cypress trees in that area. After being soaked and cold all day, steak and baked potatoes and red wine with the whole group at David's cabin was the most utterly luxurious treat! Big thanks to David for letting us crash his cabin! Back to camp, we hanged out a little more before going to bed noticeably earlier and less (or technically more) hydrated than the previous night. Woke up Sunday morning to some clearer skies, finally. Although it was not a bright day by any means, the weather had much improved. Met FlyAndStream by camp, before finishing packing up. Peter and I fished the Zone 2 area below the old park dam. It was my first time checking the area out, and I liked it a lot. As mentioned by Todd, wading was tricky due to higher water with all that rain, but there are some really nice looking runs down there. Peter did pretty good slinging woolies along the bank on the side of the trail. I think he got 4-5 fish to the net in the couple hours we were there and a few more missed. I fished the other side across the river with less success, but still got a nice girl to hand. She was well conditioned and was a fun and strong fighter in the fast flowing water. Comes one o'clock on Sunday and it's already time for us to head back to Dallas. It's crazy how time flies when you are fishing. Thanks y'all for the great times, can't wait for next camp! Gui

Nice report and photos! You definitely saw things the way I did except you caught some much larger trout. Well done.
If you send me your address in a private message I’ll be glad to replace your Polish Nymph. Those flies are guaranteed ... to sink.

Great report, Gui! Nice writeup and pictures. I had a great time visiting with everyone. From Darrell, Smallfry and Slim I got several good tying tips. Helped Dan to guard the booze, regretted doing that next day. David hosted a really nice gathering at his cabin. Great hospitality. Fishing was tough, mostly. At one point I located a bit of a "pod" in an eddy and managed to pull out a fairly nice one on a Pat's, but that was about it. I never saw anything resembling a hatch in the cold and rain. Thanks, everyone. Let's do it again in better weather.
