There has been some talk of getting together this fall or winter. I'd like to start a thread and start talk of Trout Camp 2017 (or 2018?). Some of us camp, others will get together and spilt cabins. I just like the idea of getting together after a days' fishing, food cooking on the fire and grill, crisp air, hot coffee, gentlemanly whiskey, whatever you dig. I have a new Dutch oven I need to break out and cook in. Let's get a good group of us, spend a lil money at the BB Fly Shop, share stories, maybe tie a fly or two. Everyone has a schedule, so let's start this topic now. Maybe we can get Mr. Eddy to join. I'll bring my Weber kettle down and grill some stuff. I am out of the country the first two weeks of October and always do Thanksgiving at my dad's in Lawton. Other than that, I'm pretty open. What say you?

I celebrated last new year's eve camped down there. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I love camps! I usually go to a few crappie camps throughout the year and a trout camp would be super!

I am in. I plan on hitting LMFR a bunch this winter and quite a bit this fall. It would be nice to a face with some names.
Are you thinking Jan after holidays or fall?

Sounds great! I don't know if I'll be able to stay or not, depending on dates, etc., but I'll definitely come and hang out.

I think maybe December, so we can make sure Jonbo will be there! Good fishing there in December.

1st or 2nd week of December...... after Thanksgiving, no stop logs, cabins emptier, bigger fish moving up. I am more of a cabin guy, but camping can work too. I am happy to split a nice cabin with 2-3 other guys. Fire pits, cigars, Fireball, and fishies. Maybe even a night fishing rendezvous???

Count me in. I've only fished the LMF two days, earlier this summer, but it got too warm and sunny. Tried fishing Spillway Creek and found it amazing but quite a challenge. Evening Hole and Hickory Hole were just too crowded. Really enjoyed the scenery and solace in Zone II although the bites were few and far between because of the warmth and sunshine I think. I definitely want to try again!
I think I have all the camping gear I'd need although a cabin sounds very cushy and dry. I like a little Fireball from time to time. Coffee not so much. I could haul my Weber Smokey Mountain down and do some ribs and chickens. Four hours of smoke and it would feed a pretty good sized group.

Although to keep in tradition, we may need to keep a stocker or two and toss them in the fire or on the grill.

I also thought of some good cold weather food- big pot of soup over the fire, could feed a bunch of men easily, with some cast iron corn bread. Also a big ole pan of taco meat and a stack of tortillas would be good and easy. I would probably plan on camping unless it's about negative 50, then might see about camping out in yall's cabin.

I appreciate y'all thinking of me! I can probably make it in december, but January is the best for me. In December I'm trying to compress my pest control route to the front of the month because my customers don't want to see me around Christmas. I don't mean to be a pain and can work with whatever you guys decide.

Hope I can join. I'll hang out at a camp site but I set up my tent at the Charles Wesley

Sounds like there is some interest! I will definitely take a few days off work and make it a long weekend. I'll also get some eggs tied up before then! Maybe some of the fly shop crew can join in some capacity. Golferjeff- don't be breakin no ribs again, bro.

Thanks for starting this thread hankinsfly! It's been a while since the last time I went to the LMF and my wife and I were talking the other day about making a few trips up there in the fall/early winter. We love to camp, fly-fish and cook. If schedule allows, it would a pleasure to meet you guys on the river, by the fire or both! Gui

Awesome! Got a good interest already. Good thing about Oklahoma winters is they are typically mild more often than really cold. I know they have group camps and different areas. It's been said here before, but the toilet facilities are really gross at Hickory. I like Grapevine, but don't know if the toilets are any better. Someone once mentioned I believe the Fawn campground, which might have nicer facilities. Anyone have any thoughts on the group camps? Maybe we could petition for a worker and a bottle of bleach and a rag the day before we arrive. December and January have been mentioned and we have time to figure out our schedules.

I will take off Fri so I can make it a 3 day deal....I can toss out a tent or stay in a cabin. If we had a cabin, that may make a good spot for the soup/chili and tacos. I could bring a croc pot full of chili and warm it up in a cabin to ease the load of food prep.
Sounds like we may have three for "indoors"..... I would be down for some night fishing if anyone else wanted to. I have a couple of mice. Dont' know how to fish them, but I have two!! I can give Jonbo one since he killed off his mice.

Smallfry- where do you have crappie camps at? The summer camp is usually at Eufaula lake, winter camp has been at Hugo lake and I don't keep track of the others since I haven't tried to attend them, too far not enough time. I think Kerr, Karr ( ??) lake was on the menu this year for fall or spring camp. Oolohga is popular. Next year I'll be pushing for McGee Creek since that's the closest to me. Very pretty, good for bass and crappie and somehow I managed to entice a spotted gar and two carp with a yellow wooly bugger last time I was there.

One group camp is down toward Zone II but the other is up across the road from Elm Campground.

I've seen the signs for group camps down there. I always figured they were for, like, church camps with 40 kids, some kind of nightmare scenario like that.
