Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I am a newb to LMF and to fly fishing in general. I was up there a couple weekends ago and caught a few. I hope I can make it up to trout camp to enjoy some fishing, cigars, and libations with you guys.

Man if you're catching a few, you're doing something right! It would be cool for those of us camping to either look into a group site or at least be able to get sites together. Those cabin types can probably get one in the park close by. I'm thinking go down on a Tuesday or Wednesday and stay through Sunday.

I prob won't be able to take that many days, but doesn't mean I can't come up a day or two later than y'all. Ill prob be a cabin snob, lol, but I may decide to bring up my little 4x8 tiny trailer...

Hey fellow jeep guy: is that a mower on the left side of the pic? You can leave that at home. The park doesn't require you mow your own camp spot. Just poking fun....nice jeep and 29er. You're alright in my book.

Hank - Can we nail down dates? I can take off Thu night and make it a 3 day weekend, maybe 4. Or we can do a 'do-over' in Jan and I can do two 3 day weekends. Jeff - I might let "cigarsnjeeps' take my spot in the cabin depending on space. I am totally flexible.
Is a cold front moving through this weekend? nah....prob not.

You're alright in my book. Yep. That's a mower, lol. This pic is at the house. I was figuring out the setup for the awning on the trailer. I am very glad I'm not responsible for landscaping my own campsite since i'm not even good at doing the house. You are partially right on the bike, it can be either 29 or 27.5+, its setup for 27.5+ and thanks!

Todd, I happen to be the worst scheduler in the world! But for me, mid-December or pretty much any time in January after 1/1 would be open. MLK day is 1/15, making a three-day weekend for some of us. I will go down early in the week, doesn't mean anyone else needs to.

I am an empty nester and have a lot of flexibility. I could propose we group up in December and knowing all won't make it, maybe set a second date in January? I can/will come for sure in Jan also. After all, I think we're going to fish in Jan at some point. Jeff, you were glamping this one, and will likely have some limitations with reservations, so pls chime in. I think Jeff's date/vote carries the most weight with those in a cabin (Jeff, Bill and Jeeps/cigars?). To get things going: these are just the Sat/Sun dates, of course folks can come midweek and stay late... Dec 2,3 Dec 9,10 Dec 16,17
Jan 6,7 Jan 13,14 (15 MLK)
Those who can come in Dec, pls identify the date. Jan folks, same thing. You can give dates for both of course. I will total it up. If you want to PM me, I can do it that way. Just trying to help. I won't total anything until Sunday in case folks are busy.... Hope this helps.

The Charles Wesley almost always has rooms so that part is no problem for me. It just always seems like something comes up but hopefully not this time.
I personally wish we could coordinate a get together with Frank and Evan so I could learn something too

Dec 2-3 is near full moon (the 3rd is full). It might be chilly, but if anyone wanted to get crazy, winter night fishing could be possible..
Or........we could just chill with a cigar, a tasty adult beverage, and tell war stories--you know, about that one time when you and a big time movie crew went on a pilgrimage to Montana..in search of cutty rainbrown trout...
I believe it was #3 of the Ten Commandments of Fishing: Thou shalt exaggerate wildly about the one that got away.
That being said, I would like to shoot for either the first or second weekend of Dec... (Jan would be cool, but TBD for me...)

I'm pretty open as far as dates go (I probably won't get there till Thursday night). I do plan on camping. Anyone know what it might cost for a group site with electricity?

I like the weekend of the 9-10 the best. But I can probably make anything work. Danimal, if nobody can chime in as to info on the group site, I'll call the park and check

Turfdawg is a Wesley guy. Maybe we can convert him if we get a big enough cabin. For anyone that has not been up there enough to know, please skip the Rodeway inn. Ugh. For the remainder of you.....
Not to sound too much like our favorite guide, but planning it on a stocking week/weekend would greatly increase our chances of catching fish. But that will be hard to do this far out. So, why don't we start getting set up for December 8-9-10 weekend? I don't mind planning ahead and helping coordinate, but I have not had much success organizing fishing trips. Weather, sick kids, job issues, and even a surprise divorce seem to interrupt my planned trips. I will be happy to book a cabin in my name if I can get 3-5 others committed to the same. We can coordinate with the tent crowd for evening festivities (and even allow them to use the restrooms and TP). If you are interested in a nice cabin, Dec 8-9-10 (two nights), please let me know.
I know evan and Frank will be trying a euro class on spillway sometime in the fall. I will check with Frank and see if the 9th is a possibility. If you haven't seen evan in action, you need to attend. $20-$25 gets you some supplies, good food, a euro nymphing how-to, and who knows what else they can cook up.
January is out for me, so I will help coordinate December if y'all want to nominate me.
Dec 8-9-10, 1 big cabin, 1 group campsite, lots of stories, cigars, and good fishing. Who's in?

I will put the bug in my wife's ear (it probably does feel like a real bug ) later today. I would like to attend since my last two planned trips there went belly up.

What are the "group campsites"? It seems to me I've seen something like that in the south end of the park, and it looked to me like they were designed for church camps with 25 kids or something. Is there some kind of group campsite that would suit our group? I keep thinking, why don't we all just try to take over Fern Campground? I know the tent campers would have to pay more than for a primitive site, but there would be 2 benefits. One, would be you get to use decent restroom facilities rather than the nasty outhouses like at Hickory. But two, isn't Fern directly adjacent to good winter-time wade fishing, so that we can do at least some of our fishing without driving anywhere? It's also quite close to Hickory and the EH. Tent campers can camp still at an RV accomodating campground like Fern, can't they? I think. I donno. That's my little plug for Fern, but I really don't care. I'm sure a group campsite will have its advantages too.

Sounds like plenty of room in the cabin....Jeff, sign me up. I am down with all the other: nymph fishing, night fishing, howling at the moon....

I'm in. Y'all keep your howling quiet! I'm trying to sleep over here.... We may not have enough people to reserve a group site, in which case we could all line up down Fern or wherever. It'll work out and we'll have a blast, I'm sure of it. Good news about winter camping is generally a plethora of open sites.

Don't plan anything on my part but early Dec , like Jeff mentioned, would probably be best for me.
I am supposed to become a granddad in January and I'm planning on getting some rocking in.

Turfdogg- lemme help you rationalize it. You may not get to go again for a while after January! You get in a trip while you can! Come on! Woof

I probably wont be able to do Dec due to all my clients wanting to do last minute projects to spend their budgets, but if it opens up enough for me to shoot up there the weekend you schedule, I will. I may come up the early part of thanksgiving week to get a little fishing in before the year end deluge..

Fern's cool by me. It's right next to the day use riffle and it has voltage. I have sleep apnea and use a C-PAP. I can run it off of a 12 volt marine battery through an inverter when I canoe camp, but the inverter can be a bit finicky if the humidity's high so having a hook-up is added security. It's also added security for anyone sleeping within about a hundred feet of me because without the C-PAP machine my snoring could literally peel paint from a wall. LOL.
